Well, there was no flooding in August, so I guess that’s good, right? August really does make up the dog days of summer. Plenty of warm days, where the days blend together and the weeks go by.
And while we’re in the “ber” months, August was a big month for a few things.
Life Recap
Life was busy in August. It seemed like almost every weekend, we were out somewhere, meeting friends or family, and even just this last weekend, I spent two nights at my grandparents’ house watching college football with my grandparents and aunts.
This month was tough, too, as both my boyfriend’s employer and mine had layoffs. While both of us still have our jobs, there’s this weird grief that comes with seeing friends disappear.
One of my friends who I’ve worked with since 2019 was hit, and then right after, my manager was let go. Watching their profiles disappear from my Slack sidebar back to back was a visceral moment that I hate.
There’s also the loneliness, as now, everyone on my direct team is a contractor, on the other side of the world, working together in the office, and I’m at home alone. Trying to figure out my relationship with my new manager while everything switches around and also manage to still do my job.
There have also been some health issues, specifically with my digestive system and it’s been rough. I’m trying to eat better overall, but I’m human and there are still some days I’m not doing too great. On top of eating better, I’m trying to move my body more.
As the weather hopefully gets cooler, I’ll be able to walk longer during the day without the heat, and hopefully the roach in my garage will go away so I can lift weights again.
Writing Recap
August was a big month for my book. Not only did I finish it, going through 65,000 words to get to the end, I finally came up with a title for the book. I’m so excited for this book to come out in November.
Reading Recap
Read a few books in August but most of my focus was finishing my own. I read seven books in August.
Don’t Let Him In by Lisa Jewell
Savor It by Tarah DeWitt
Left of Forever by Tarah DeWitt
Say You’ll Remember Me by Abby Jimenez
What Happens in Amsterdam by Rachel Lynn Solomon
Party of Liars by Kelsey Cox
Any Trope but You by Victoria Lavine
With the break in writing this month, though, we’ll be reading more books. Spooking season is almost here (it’s still 100 degrees in Texas, so we aren’t there yet), which means it’s almost time to read more horror books.
The dog days of summer are mostly behind us, and I really hope this fall is kinder than this summer has been.
