September was the last month of the year where I’m not going to be actively in a book. I’ll be spending October in final edits and reviewing feedback for And She Runs. Then it’ll come out in November and I’ll start the sequel.
But that’s not the post for this (you can read about those plans here). But knowing that the rest of the year will be busy, I really wanted to have some fun in September. And I did.
Life Recap
September was much better than August was. No lay offs at my job, for the most part, my digestive system issues are not as bad as they were and I got to hang out with friends this month.
Weekends were spent trying to clean up my Notion set up, hanging out on the couch with my boyfriend and playing Stardew Valley.
There was the one week where I had a light case of Covid and Flu, I think. Every time I took the tests, the lines were so faint, I sometimes thought I was imagining them. But I did feel sick that week. At first I thought it was a bad sinus infection, but then my boyfriend got sick and that was the end of “it’s just a sinus infection.”
Thankfully it was a quick recovery for me and thanks to a remote job, I did work through my covid. I don’t really understand why both bouts of covid have been so mild for me (I caught it back in 2023 after a destination wedding), but I’m grateful for it.
Then two weeks ago, we went tailgating. My alma mater, Sam Houston State, was in Austin to play the Texas Longhorns. While I never thought they they would win, I was not happy with a total shutout. But we went tailgating with some friends (including the ones from the destination wedding), so it was fun to just get out of the house and hang out with people.
Though I do think I stressed our group out with my reactions to how terribly the Bearkats played. I was stressed, whoops.
But besides Covid, September was about trying to relax for a split second and start thinking about book marketing.
Writing Recap
I tried to write some back-cover blurbs for And She Runs. They are terrible. We will have to try again later this week (aka October). Did create some marketing graphics but I didn’t write any fiction this month.
Reading Recap
Between covid and just life, we did not get a lot reading done this month, whoops.
She Didn’t See it Coming by Shari Lapena
Sister Wife: A Memoir of Faith, Family, and Finding Freedom by Christine Brown Woolley
Forget Me Not by Stacey Willingham
Pitcher Perfect by Tessa Bailey
Framed in Death by J.D. Robb
The Blonde Who Came in from the Cold by Ally Carter
107 Days by Kamala Harris
Now that we’re basically at the end of September, and at the beginning of Quarter Four, it’s time to really dig in and balance being an author and being just a person living life.
Thanks September for the memories.
